Family members are charged with murder • The alarm call: “My wife’s life is in danger”
In May last year, a body was found at a barbecue area in Lessebo, outside Växjö. The fisherman who made the find could not say if it was about a man or woman, when the body was so badly burned.
With the help of dental cards, the police were later able to identify a 22-year-old woman, who was murdered and then set fire to. The prosecutor suspects that she was subjected to an honorary killing.
The woman moved with her family to Sweden from a Central Asian country in 2012. Over the years she has on several occasions told authorities and to others in her vicinity that she was subjected to threats, social control, mental violence, physical violence and sexual abuse by her father , according to the police investigation protocol.
Requirements for cousin
Dad must have been clear that the woman would marry her cousin, something she did not want. Smyg met and married to another man instead.
They settled in Germany, but after a while the woman moved back to Sweden, where she changed her name and lived under Privacy Information. The family somehow got in touch with her and in April last year she moved home to them in Lessebo again. The couple’s hope was that the father would accept their marriage and that everything would be good.
Her husband was still in Germany and when after a couple of weeks she stopped responding to his call he became worried.
After talking to her family on the phone, he alerts 112.
“My wife’s life is in danger,” says the man in a conversation with SOS, which TV4 News has taken part in.
– I’ve talked to her brother, her mother and with her dad last night. He was also really jealous, “I will kill you, everything,” the husband continues.
Rough offenses
The man goes on to the alarm operator that the mother said the daughter was missing. On the same day she is also reported by her brother and the next day she is found dead.
Chamber Prosecutor Anna-Karin von Schoultz believes that the 22-year-old woman was murdered by her mother, father and big brother-and that she was strangled by her own shawl.
This week the trio was charged with murder and gross grave crime.
-The three suspects together and in agreement conducted the murder of the 22-year-old woman during the evening of May 3, 2024 in order to maintain the family’s honor. Subsequently, the body has been placed and burned, on two occasions, in the wind shed in the Ekebacken area in Lessebo where she was then found, says von Schoultz in a press release.
The woman’s big brother, who is 23 years old, has admitted that he murdered his sister in his father’s car and that the parents were present. According to the 23-year-old, he performed the deeds after pressure of the father.
The parents deny both murder and grave crime.
