The opposition had risen against the words of François Bayrou, who spoke of a feeling of migratory “submersion” of the French. What do they really think?
François Bayrou made remarks that divide. During an interview with LCI, he said that there was a feeling of “migratory submersion” in the population. A remark that has not been appreciated on the left, where the opposition has been standing since the beginning of the week. But did the Prime Minister put words into what the French feel? According to a survey Elabethe majority of the population feels this “submersion” (67%). On the side of the voters of the national rally, republicans and overall, this observation is all the more shared with 92%, 81% and 67% of positive opinions respectively.
But what do the voters on the left think? Even within the NFP electorate, the question divides. Indeed, 29% of them share the observation of François Bayrou, but the proportion increases to 43% among the voters of the PS.
Did François Bayrou be right to use this expression?
If the French are therefore generally agreeing with the Prime Minister, questions still arise on the expression. Indeed, it made the left opposition leap, which does not help with difficult discussions around the budget and a possible censorship of the government in the Assembly. Especially since the French, including left -wing voters, are generally against the censorship of the Bayrou government (58%).
For 64% of respondents, François Bayrou was right to use this expression. An opinion shared by 25% of NFP voters (21% for LFI and 49% for the PS), 90% of RN voters, 77% of LR and 72% of overall voters.
Despite these figures, François Bayrou and 71% of French people “do not call into question the positive contribution of immigration, but provided that this does not exceed a proportion”.
