The Riksbank lowers the policy rate to 2.25 percent

The Riksbank lowers the policy rate once again, from 2.50 percent to 2.25.

“This means that the policy rate has been lowered by a total of 1.75 percentage points since May. The lower interest rate will gradually make an increasingly positive contribution to demand in the Swedish economy, ”the Riksbank writes in a press release.

The reduction is the sixth since May last year.

The new interest rate is valid from February 5.

Economist: Careful tone

However, the Riksbank does not flag for any further reduction in the near future. It has its explanation, says Frida Bratt, economist at Nordnet.

– Sure, the interest rate is lowered, but the tone of the interest rate is a little cautious after all. I think you can read that the Riksbank will await the effects of already made interest rate cuts, which have not been fully impacted, and inflation pressure in the coming months both in Sweden and the outside world, she tells TV4 News.

Among other things, the uncertainty about inflation in the United States has increased, which may affect the Riksbank’s upcoming documents.

– Since Sweden, after all, is still in the recession, there could be some reduction, but it is far from written in stone, says Frida Bratt.
