Death of Catherine Laborde: What is she dead? Disease stronger than the host

Catherine Laborde died this Tuesday, January 28, 2025 at the age of 73, her family told AFP. The TV host had disappeared from the public sphere since 2017, the date of her last weather bulletin on TF1. We learn in 2018 that Catherine Laborde has been sick for many years. She announces that she suffers from Lewy’s body disease, a type of dementia close to Alzheimer or Parkinson.

During an interview with Audrey Crespo-Mara in 2020, she specifies suffering from memory losses: “There I just told you, I don’t know what I said half an hour earlier.” She also explains that she does not recognize her husband or daughters sometimes. “I never know who is in the room, who leaves, who comes home. At the same time I recognize them and no I do not recognize them”. Born in 1951 in Bordeaux, Catherine Laborde, was a television host and actress. She presented the TF1 weather bulletin from July 1988 to January 2017.

Damage to neuro-degenerative disease since 2014

On the occasion of the release of “Malade love, when helping to help” (Plon), her book co-written with her husband Thomas Stern, Catherine Laborde granted TF1 an interview in which she engaged in progress of his illness. Diagnosed six years ago from Lewy’s body disease, a condition that has symptoms of Parkinson and Alzheimer’s diseases, Catherine Laborde fights against her symptoms which are becoming more and more annoying on a daily basis. “When you ask me if I am well, I would tell you that yes, a few times, and a few is not going very well,” she said to Audrey Crespo-Mara during the interview broadcast in seven to eight on October 4, 2020 .

Several times during this interview, the former presenter of the TF1 weather bulletin returns to the fear that his illness inspires him. “I got scared when I knew. It projected me out of the world of other humans”. Catherine Laborde also returned to the various symptoms of her illness. Starting with memory loss: “There I just told you, I don’t know what I said half an hour earlier.” She also explains that she does not recognize her husband or daughters sometimes. “I never know who is in the room, who leaves, who comes home. In addition, Catherine Laborde is regularly the victim of balanced losses, so much so that she leaves her home accompanied by her husband or children, for her safety. For TF1, she also described one of the last symptoms she discovered “I don’t know, when I’m in the dark, if I’m up or down. I don’t really know where I am and who I am.

Four years after retiring from the TF1 antenna, Laborde explains to feel “a total despair, like a child who has lost. Like a person who has no connection with the outside”. She also explains in seven to eight that her farewell to the weather in her “seem far away because it is the disease that will take it, I think, at one time when to another. It is a shame , I would have liked it to last for a while.
