We see what a war of the 21st century

For this second episode of our new Podcast the staff, we are looking at the Ukrainian Front, where the worst conflict takes place on the European continent since the Second World War.

On February 24, 2022, Vladimir Putin launched his army to conquer Ukraine. Three years later, his military assessment was appalling and dizzying. For the takeover of a wider part of the Donbass and access to the Azov Sea, he lost more than 700,000 men, put out of combat. How much are dead? Between 135,000 and 195,000, according to the mid-January estimate of the Russian-speaking BBC editorial staff, from open sources. On the Ukrainian side, around 60,000 soldiers would have lost their lives.

To hold, the Ukrainians have several major advantages: the motivation to defend their nation, their homes, their families, to remain a free country, of course Western aid, but above all an ingenuity scrutinized by all the other armies, in particular in their design and use of drones.

If the Ukrainians have been backing up for several months, they do not undergo any breakthrough. Impossible to know if they will continue to contain, as best they can, the Russian push.

To radiate the Russian and Ukrainian armies, the staff receives one of the best French specialists. Vincent Tourret is currently writing a thesis on doctrinal and capacity innovations in the Soviet army and its main heiress, the Russian army, at the University of Quebec, in Montreal. He is also a researcher associated with the Foundation for Strategic Research. And last July, he was passing through Ukraine to study the conflict.
