Trump thanks indigenous voters with federal recognition

Several indigenous peoples met with resistance during Donald Trump’s last presidential period.

He opposed the protection of several sacred places that were important to indigenous voters. Oil and gas companies instead gained access to land against the will of the indigenous peoples.

“They were fantastic”

But that’s not the whole picture. On the contrary, in the Lumbee tribe, a large part of voters voted on Donald Trump. One reason for that was that he promised to give the tribe a federal recognition that would give them the right to federal support programs such as housing and education.

With just days into the term of office, Trump has now realized election promises.

“They were with me all the way, they were fantastic,” Donald Trump said before signing the executive order.

“Shows his devotion”

The Ministry of the Interior now has 90 days to realize the plan together with the leaders of the Lumbee people.

Pample chairman John L. Lowery has already paid tribute to the decision.

“This action is a direct follow-up of the campaign promises that the president gave and shows his dedication to the Lumbee people,” he said in a statement According to USA Today.

Kamala Harris also promised during the election campaign that she would give the tribe federal recognition.
