Three letters make the difference, because while Suicide Squad from 2016 caused a real debacle, the Suicide Squad by James Gunn was able to do six years later for fans and critics: provide enthusiasm inside. In order to complete the confusion, not only the title has remained largely the same, but also part of the cast, including Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn.
Today ProSieben shows the DC superhero actionby the way, was inspired by a war film that has it all and is still one of the most important films in his genre. But more about that later.
The Suicide Squad on TV: These DC base wastes are fighting for the good
The biggest bad guys sit in the Beele Reve prison, a place with a high death rate. To get out of here, the villains are even ready to join the Task Force X, even if the chances of survival are not too high here. On behalf of Amanda Waller (Viola Davis), the completely crazy troop goes on a fatal mission.
In a mixture of sequel and soft reboot Gunn takes out what David Ayer was denied by the interference of the studio at the time: one tough orgia of violence that ensures the best entertainment with a lot of humor. At the beginning he turns the audience the expectations upside down.
This is well received and the critics: Inside on Rotten Tomatoes even a whopping 90 percent of positive ratings. For comparison: in the first part it was only 26 percent. Our community is also satisfied and evaluates The Suicide Squad with 6.9 out of 10 points.
The dirty dozen inspired huge superhero film
The dirty dozen of Robert Aldrich, which comes up with a very similar action, is also extremely brutal and yet entertaining in the war film published in 1967. In the war film, twelve Serious criminals condemned to death formed an elite unitwhich is sent to an Ascension Command, from which not everyone returns.
In an interview with Slash Film, director Gunn said in 2021 that The Suicide Squad should also be seen as a war film despite supernatural elements. Produzentin Beth Mickle added:
So if you think of a film in that The dirty dozen on Beasts of the Southern Wild and Black Hawk Down meets … people constantly ask me what this film will look like. […] If you mix these films together and make this film out of it, yes, it is incredibly original.
It is also really hard in a superhero series on Amazon, which even puts The Boys in the shade and is even to get eight seasons.
