Nathalie Blomqvist broke the Finnish indoor track record of 3,000 meters in Malaga, Spain, late on Saturday evening. Blomqvist was third in the race with a time of 8:51.95. The previous record was by Camilla Richardsson ran 8:53.60 in the second year.
However, for Blomqvist, the run was a little disappointing. Blomqvist runs and a Briton runs in the same training group Cari Hughes and Spanish Marta García went to get the limit of 8:37.00 in the World Championship Halls in March.
– We had a hard time trying to go get it. We had two hares, but we were too optimistic and went too hard. Jänis went in 2.51 for the first kilometer and I was a couple of seconds behind, Blomqvist repeated in SUL’s press release.
According to Blomqvist, the pace of the fast start faded again, and the team could not stay together.
– My run just didn’t work. I ran a large part of the distance alone, as did Marta and Cari, who passed us at the end and won, Blomqvist repeated.
Cari Hughes won the race with a time of 8:50.40. Marta García was second with a time of 8:51.63.
Blomqvist’s SE time on the outdoor tracks that he ran last year is 8:32,23.
