A man in Haparanda was wrongly detained for more than two months. While he was locked up, his son was born. The man now receives close to SEK 100,000 in damages, writes Norrländska Socialdemokraten.
The man, who is in his 30s, was detained a few years ago on suspicion of kidnapping and aggravated extortion. After two and a half months he was released. The prosecutor later dropped the preliminary investigation.
The Chancellor of Justice (JK) has decided that the man will receive SEK 97,000 in compensation for the time he was in custody. The amount is justified, among other things, by the fact that the man missed the birth of his son.
