“I’ve played the game half my life and don’t know what it’s like” – user finds rare animation, delights fans

World of Warcraft is now over 20 years old and some of its players have been playing the game since its release. To bring back the “good old days” there is now WoW Classic. A player has now discovered something that has remained hidden even to veterans for all these years.

This is what the user discovered:

  • In WoW Classic, apparently on the Fresh Start servers, a player is traveling in Feralas and completing quests on the coast.
  • As he fights a water elemental, a sea giant appears next to him and runs along his planned path.
  • Suddenly the giant stops and leans forward a little – only to release a green gas bubble from his innermost being, which he promptly causes to burst. The mob obviously regrets this straight away:

That’s what’s so special about the animation: The corresponding thread on Reddit is receiving a lot of attention from the community. Many users say that they have never seen this animation in all these years.

However, this is not particularly surprising, because what the giant is doing there is a so-called “idle animation”, i.e. an animation that only occurs when the NPC has nothing else to do.

But most enemies are constantly patrolling somewhere. This is particularly true of the sea giants, which almost always have fixed paths or at least never stay in one place for long.

The fact that the user caught a moment when the sea giant has just a little time for its biological needs is extremely rare – and not an isolated case, as a user explains with video evidence.

“How did I not know this existed before?”

Reddit user No_Preference_8543 writes that Blizzard itself is said to have talked about this exact animation in Vanilla WoW’s “Behind the Scenes” video. He posts a link to a YouTube video that talks about it (around minute 13:31).

This video is part of the Collector’s Edition of the original World of Warcraft from 2004. It explains that there are other such rare animations, such as goblins chasing their own tails.

By the way, if you still have the installation CDs from back then, you can take a look at a secret.

The animations of the sea giants and the goblins are not secret, but they are so rare that hardly any player has ever seen them or even knew about their existence – similar to the hidden items in WoW, which hardly any of you probably know.

Other details are either clearly visible in the game – such as the Sword of Sargeras – or never made it into the game. But that doesn’t stop fans from still puzzling through the finds and finding out a lot of new things: WoW fan discovers small detail – questions the whole story
