A source tells the newspaper that it could take up to a year before the system works flawlessly.

  • The Minister of Migration wants to tighten the subsistence requirement

The Minister of Migration wants to tighten the subsistence requirement

Migration Minister Johan Forssell does not believe that the new investigation’s proposal on livelihood requirements to become a citizen of Sweden goes far enough, he says in Ekot’s Saturday interviewu.

Sweden scrapped the dependency requirement for citizenship in 1976, something the Tidö government now wants to reintroduce.

    – What I reacted to is that the supply requirement is so low, lower than, for example, Denmark and several other countries. Seven thousand kroner left after tax, it doesn’t go far enough if you want to become a Swedish citizen, says Forsell.

The Minister of Migration also comments on what it can mean to not have an honest way of life, formerly known as vandalism.

    – It could be systematic abuse of the welfare system, collusion with criminal networks or statements that simply challenge basic democratic Swedish values, glorifying terrorism.

    – If you are a guest at someone’s place, you make a little extra effort to be tidy, says Forssell.
