The autocratic president of Belarus Aljaksandr Lukashenko has pardoned 15 prisoners, state news agency Belta reported.
According to the media, Lukashenko pardoned eight people who had been convicted of terrorism and seven people who had been convicted of drug trafficking.
Belarus will hold presidential elections on Sunday. 70-year-old Lukashenko has been in power for more than 30 years. He is expected to win Sunday’s election.
Lukashenko, who leads the country autocratically, has crushed the opposition in the country. In the West, he is accused of restricting human rights and imprisoning political opponents.
