The invasive cembra hall is located in several cemeteries and parks in northern Sweden. However, the tree causes a number of concerns in the cemetery in Öjebyn, for example, its powerful roots cause some tombstones to become unstable.
The tree also attracts another invasive species. The Siberian narrow -lined nut crow.
“We have plenty of them here,” says Marika Berglund, cemetery manager at Piteå parish.
Not just to remove the trees
The crow is fond of the seeds of the tree and spreads them around the county’s forests so that the pine spreads.
But since the cemetery goes under the Cultural Environment Act, it is not only to remove the tree, but permission from the county administrative board is needed.
Now Piteå parish will develop a tree care plan and together with the authority investigate any measures.
