The Burkinabè army detachment based in Sebba, in the north-east of Burkina Faso, was the target of a violent attack which reportedly left several dozen dead and injured on the afternoon of Wednesday January 22. If, at this stage, the junta in power in Ouagadougou did not react, the Support Group for Islam and Muslims (JNIM), an armed group linked to al-Qaeda, claimed responsibility for the assault.
