The Party for the Animals and BIJ1 are against the continuation of the hard drugs ban. “Because with this ban, a vulnerable group of people is criminalized because of their attempt to survive,” said group leader Stevie Nolten in the city council. “High fines are being handed out because, according to the council, this is the best way to guide or force people into care.” She thinks fines are counterproductive. Mayor Dijksma disagrees. She thinks this image is unjustified and only after frequent warnings is a fine imposed, the mayor said.
