Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 wanted to take tough action against racism and homophobia

Strict rules of conduct should apply in the Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 forum. Now publisher Deep Silver has changed its mind and discarded most of the rules. Instead, they are now relying on the goodwill of the community.

What were the rules? It wasn’t until January 17, 2025 that Kingdom Come 2’s publisher, Deep Silver, published a code of conduct for the game’s forums. For example, the community area on Steam.

It said that there is a zero tolerance policy when it comes to discrimination. Specifically, all kinds of racism, sexism, homophobia and transphobia or ableism were banned – to name just a few topics. Hate speech and dangerous ideologies such as neo-Nazism should also not be tolerated.

Anyone who breaks the rules has to live with the consequences. These range from deleting the relevant post to exclusion from the forum (via pcgamer.com)

Now, however, Deep Silver has backtracked. Instead of the detailed catalog of rules, users can expect a much slimmed down version of it.

Kingdom Come Deliverance recently presented its roadmap – here’s a video about it:

What are the new rules? Where there was once a detailed breakdown of everything that was forbidden and counted as discrimination, the new rules on Steam look much simpler.

Under the point “Respect others” it now says:

Treat everyone fairly. We’re not trying to stifle free speech, but personal attacks and criticism of others for their decisions – whether in game or in conversation – have no place here.

Apart from that, the publisher also asks that any discussions be focused on the game itself, not to give spoilers and to refrain from spam or self-promotion. The Steam guidelines must also be adhered to.

Overall, the new rules are formulated much more vaguely. While the first version of the code clearly defined all relevant subject areas and showed what was not permitted, the second version offers more scope for interpretation and loopholes.

How does Deep Silver justify this step? The publisher explains the decision as follows:

Over the last few days, we’ve been listening to your feedback and updating our Community Guidelines to better design the space we all want. We’ve made it clearer, simpler and shorter to keep things fair, respectful and focused – thank you all for being part of this journey with us.

It remains to be seen how the community accepts the changes and whether the new rules work. No matter how they are worded, it should be clear that there is no place for discrimination and hate in the gaming community. Kingdom Come 2 is always the subject of controversial discussions: Boss comments on the accusation that Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 is woke and pre-sales on Steam are therefore collapsing
