Sarnia police said they found a man in a pickup truck near a hole cut in a fence around 5 am Sept. 8 when an alarm was triggered at a commercial business on Vidal Street South. The court heard it was United Rentals on Vidal Street near Churchill Line.

The man claimed to be an employee, but was unable to provide proof, police said. A second man was found hiding in the bed of the pickup truck trying to hide bolt cutters.

Kevin Woll, 28, from Sarnia was charged with breaking and entering, mischief, possessing break-in tools, and breaching probation. Seth Delong, 23, from Sarnia was charged with breaking and entering and mischief, police said. They were held for lease hearings, they added.

Woll, who admitted to being the one hiding in the bed of the pickup, recently pleaded guilty to breaking and entering as well as charges linked to other incidents including threatening to blow up a vehicle, failing to stop for police, breaching lease and suspended driving . For that he was sentenced to 130 days in jail and ordered to pay about $340 in restitution to United Rentals.

The court heard Woll has a prior criminal record. Defense lawyer Terry Brandon told the judge he has a troubled history and wellness issues including bipolar disorder.

Woll declined a chance to speak.

Brandon and assistant Crown attorney Suzanne LaSha both suggested the 130-day sentence, which Justice Mark Hornblower said was appropriate. Woll is also banned from United Rentals and from communicating with Delong.

Delong returns to court Feb. 4.
