The Veilguard Sales Did Not Satisfy EA

Although Dragon Age: The Veilguard reached 1.5 million players in its first two months, it remained half of EA’s expectation of 3 million.

Released by EA with great hopes Dragon Age: The Veilguardreached 1.5 million players in the first two months. However, this number was well below the company’s expectation of 3 million. The game, released on October 31, 2024, ranked sixth on the list of best-selling games in the United States in its first three days. Despite this, lower-than-expected player interest and sales figures caused EA to revise its financial expectations.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard and Expectations

EA had set high goals for Dragon Age: The Veilguard. However, the game did not achieve the success of rival productions such as Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth and Dragon’s Dogma II during the launch period. The fact that the game has been on sale since the first days and the changes in BioWare’s executive staff show that the project is facing difficulties. In particular, the recent departure of the game’s director, Corinne Busche, from the studio reveals the problems in the development process.

Compared to previous games in the Dragon Age series, The Veilguard’s sales and player engagement figures were lower. Still, the game received positive reviews from critics. Most gaming platforms described the game as “a production that renews and revitalizes the series” and noted that fighting mechanics, character writing and storytelling stand out.

EA announced that in addition to the game not delivering as expected, other productions such as EA Sports FC 25 also fell short of the targets. This caused the company to lower its growth expectations for fiscal 2025. EA revised its projected growth for the end of the year to a “moderate decline.” While Dragon Age: The Veilguard introduced new characters and stories for fans of the series, its sales performance impacted EA’s financial goals.
