Now he is sentenced to life imprisonment.

Axel Rudakubana, who was 17 when the crime was committed, admitted to three murders, attempted murder and other charges during the trial, which began on Monday.

He was charged with 16 counts of stabbing girls at a dance event to Taylor Swift music in the small English town of Southport on July 29 last year.

“Good thing the kids are dead – I’m so happy”

Among the charges are three counts of murder of six-year-old Bebe King, seven-year-old Elsie Dot Stancombe and nine-year-old Alice Dasilva Aguiar.

“It’s like we’re stuck in a horror movie, what do we do now? She was our purpose for living,” said Alice’s parents in a statement during the trial.

When Rubdakubana was arrested, he is said to have said: “It’s good that the children are dead… I’m so happy… so happy”. He is also said to have expressed that he “doesn’t care and feels neutral”, says the prosecutor.

After that, Rubdakubana started screaming in the courtroom. He shouted that he was sick and needed to see a doctor.

– I can’t continue to be silent. I haven’t eaten in ten days. I feel bad, shouted the 18-year-old, who was then taken out by security personnel.

Sentenced to life imprisonment

But later in the day the verdict came. Rubdakubana is sentenced to at least 52 years in prison.

The 18-year-old has an immigrant background but was born in Wales. His bloody deed was followed by large-scale violence when false information was spread that he was a newly arrived boat refugee.

In early August, right-wing extremists spread all kinds of rumors on social media and the result was mobs attacking mosques and other targets associated with immigrants in a number of British cities. Many were injured in clashes with the police.

The violence led to over 1,200 arrests, and many rioters have already been sentenced to up to nine years in prison.
