The ChatGPT website was offline for a few hours on Thursday, January 23. The OpenAI firm has not officially communicated on the reasons for this outage, but everything suggests that the company’s servers encountered difficulties.
It had been a few months since ChatGPT had an outage in its online services. When trying to go to the site at the beginning of the afternoon, the latter indicated an error message: “Bad gateway. The web server reported a bad gateway error” while indicating your IP address and your location.
This error message is not completely unknown since it therefore indicates that the outage seems to be caused by a problem with the servers of the company behind ChatGPT. It was therefore useless to try to repair your machine, you could not manage to force the return of the AI assistant on it.
When did the ChatGPT outage end?
ChatGPT was inaccessible for a few hours this Thursday. If we are to believe the alerts on the DownDetector site, the first reports of a ChatGPT outage appear to date back to around 12:30 p.m. The AI assistant finally came back online around 3:20 p.m. that same day.
The last major outage of ChatGPT dates back to June 2024 when the service was impossible to access for several hours. The official OpenAI server site already indicated that the company was well aware of the issues and quickly worked to resolve them. In the event of a future failure, alternatives are always possible.
How to access ChatGPT despite an outage?
ChatGPT is not just a website or a browser extension. The official application is available on iPhone And Android and the latter generally responds to our requests when the site is offline. We therefore advise you to turn to these same mobile applications if you need ChatGPT urgently and the website is out of order.
Other AI assistants are also available and usually work when ChatGPT is down. This is particularly the case of Gemini from Google which is still online and could assist you with your needs while waiting for ChatGPT web version to return to normal.
