The gendarmerie of a large French region has just opened a site allowing victims of burglaries or thefts to recover their stolen items. An original and useful initiative that we would like to see extended to the entire territory.

If you have ever been the victim of a theft or burglary, you know how painful and traumatic this experience is. Especially if an object that you hold dear has been stolen from you for family or sentimental reasons, especially if it is unique. And in many cases, we have to give up on these goods that have disappeared forever.

Fortunately, it also happens that the investigations of the police and the gendarmerie are successful and that the police find the thieves and their loot. But without being able to identify their rightful owners, certain objects remain in reserve, waiting to be claimed.

However, this state of affairs could begin to change with the Internet and new services put in place by the authorities. In any case, this is what we can hope for with my-objects-stolen.fra website launched by the Nouvelle-Aquitaine gendarmerie, which brings together a multitude of stolen and found products waiting to be returned.

There you can find jewelry, electronic devices, motorcycles, alcohol, clothing or even, more unusual, firearms and ammunition. The idea behind the site is of course to return all stolen objects to their owner. And to do this, the procedure to follow is free of charge.

To recover your stolen item, the process is simple and free. If you recognize, at random, your pair of sunglasses among the ten present on the site, simply send an email to the address specified in the photo and attach proof that the object belongs to you . Copies of personal photos, invoices, a complaint or even a serial number are all elements accepted to authenticate the object.

Once the shipment is received, the gendarmerie takes the time to check the documents and if everything matches, the objects are returned to their owner free of charge. Behind this great initiative, the idea is “return everything to the victims, who often have the feeling of having had their privacy violated, […] and make them smile a little with objects of great sentimental value”entrusts the gendarme of Nouvelle-Aquitaine to The Popular Center.

For the moment, the site mesobjetsvoles.fr is enjoying great success at the local level since nearly 1.5 million visits were recorded in 2024. A craze which should continue in 2025 and which, we hope, will encourage more others from other gendarmes and other regions to roll out the concept on a national scale.
