Birol Kumoğlu, a 55-year-old retired naval petty officer living in Bursa, first applied to the health center complaining of fatigue. Kumoğlu, who saw that his kidney values were high in his tests, applied to the City Hospital. As a result of the imaging, it was determined that the right kidney had shrunk due to the stone, that there was a large mass in the left kidney, approximately 12 centimeters long, extending to the main renal vein, and that there was bleeding around the kidney. During the tests I had at the health center, I learned that my kidney values were high and so I applied to the hospital. I had an ultrasound at the hospital and had a tomography scan. The ultrasound showed that there was a mass in my left kidney.
“I COULD HAVE LOSE MY KIDNEY”
During the tests and examinations performed by my doctor, I learned that I had a mass over 10 centimeters in size in my left kidney and a 2.5 centimeter stone in my right kidney. However, I could have lost my kidney due to the 12-centimeter mass. My doctor explained that the mass should be removed first. After the surgery, my kidney values started to improve. “I thank my doctor,” he said.

Urology Specialist Assoc. Dr. Ahmet Şahan said, “A mass was detected in his kidney during the imaging performed at the external center. Since his kidney values were high when he came to us, we took the medicated film under the control of the nephrology department. We saw that the mass was more advanced in the medicated film compared to the unmedicated film and that there was a 12-centimeter mass spreading towards the main vein of the kidney.” Since the patient’s other kidney was small and had a 2.5 centimeter stone, the kidney values were high. We aimed to preserve the kidney by removing the mass in the kidney as it spread into the vein. We explained all the risks to our patient and decided to perform a partial nephrectomy. The surgery took approximately 2.5 hours. Now our patient’s kidney values are getting better. The pathology came out today and it was reported that the kidney tissue was preserved and the cancerous tissue was completely cleared. “Our patient will be even healthier if he applies the treatments we have given him,” he said.
