After having garnered 19 million new subscribers by the end of 2024, the streaming platform is preparing to unveil its new price list in North America. Before an upcoming arrival in France?
We thought it was surpassed by its competitors, but Netflix is in great shape. At the end of a year 2024 marked by an increase in the number of subscribers – plus 19 million in the last quarter of 2024! – and stratospheric revenues – more than 10.2 million profits over the same period – the video streaming giant confirms its comeback.
In the presentation of its quarterly balance sheets for 2024, the American firm reinforces this good dynamic with successful programs which have appeared or reappeared in the Netflix catalog. “Squid Game Season 2 is poised to become one of our most-watched original series, Carry-On joined our list of the 10 best movies of all time, the Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson fight became the most-watched sporting event of all time, and on Christmas Day we broadcast the two most-watched NFL games in history.”
Netflix subscription: new prices for 2025
Thus, after a year 2024 full of new features and new subscribers, the platform is preparing to increase its prices. According to information from New York Times, all subscriptions of the platform (standard with advertising, standard and premium) will be affected and four countries, the United States, Canada, Argentina and Portugal, will be the first to experience this development.
Until the next bill, here is the new price list offered by Netflix in North America:
- The “Standard with ad” subscription will increase from $6.99 to $7.99
- The “Standard” subscription will go from $15.49 to $17.99
- The “Premium” subscription will go from $22.99 to $24.99
Netflix increase: Portugal before France
For the moment, no information regarding the arrival of this new price list in France has been confirmed by the platform. But in view of the latest adjustments, it is (very) likely that all of Europe will join Portugal in the list of countries concerned. The final price of the subscription could thus increase by an additional 1 to 2 euros.
As a reminder, the current price of Netflix France subscriptions ranges from 5.99 euros to 19.99 euros per month. The entry package – “standard with advertising” – at 5.99 euros includes an image resolution of 1080p, the possibility of watching on two screens simultaneously, and the broadcast of advertisements/trailers before playing a film or series. The “standard” formula at 13.49 euros has the same options as the previous one but without the advertisements. Finally, the “premium” formula offers the best technical viewing characteristics of the platform. For 19.99 euros per month, the subscriber has access to 4k image quality, immersive sound, up to four users simultaneously and, of course, without advertising.
Netflix prices: why these increases?
The announcement of this new price list is not so surprising. As explained previously, the platform’s results in 2024 confirmed a positive trend for Netflix productions and the visibility that such a broadcaster offers. The broadcasting of live events has become one of the objectives of the American firm which hopes to continue the momentum of the Jake Paul against Mike Tyson fight. In January 2024, Netflix initiated this desire by signing a broadcast agreement with WWE, the American professional wrestling league, at $5 billion.
No more sport and live broadcasts, but also the end of certain “made in Netflix” productions. The year 2025 should be that of the last episodes of Stranger Thingsand new episodes of Squid Game or even the final season of You. On the film side, a new opus of the saga At loggerheads is expected, as is the Frankenstein, directed by Guillermo Del Toro.
In a few months, Netflix will have been able to regain control of its subscriptions and exceed the mark of 300 million subscribers worldwide. After having imposed advertising on certain packages and reducing the number of simultaneous screens, we must hope that the next modifications will not further impact the viewing quality of users and that the new features announced will be accessible on all packages.
