The clock is ticking for Perttu Hyvärinen, but the hat is no longer tight – “Now we live on one card” | Sports in a nutshell

The clock is ticking for Perttu Hyvarinen but the hat

Perttu Hyvärinen has had enough adversity this season. Hyväris feels like November is still on him.

Perttu Hyvärinen the name was not found in the Engadin World Cup team list published today. Puijo Ski Club’s skier has participated in only one World Cup competition this season and suffered from several setbacks in the early season.

The clock is now ticking fast as the World Cup in Trondheim approaches.

– Now we live on one card. There should be no more back pack. I’m trying to do things as well as possible now, as I’ve always tried. There have only been variables that are independent of me, which I have not been able to influence, Hyvärinen tells Urheilu.

Hyvärinen’s cycle of bad luck started even before the Ruka World Cup, when he twisted his ankle badly during a run and tore three ligaments in his ankle. At that time, Hyvärinen set an optimistic goal of skiing in the World Cup in Davos, and the rehabilitation went so well that he reached his goal.

However, the skiing in Davos was bad. Hyvärinen’s preparation for hard skiing was not good, and he finished 26th in the 20 km traditional skiing competition. Two days later, he fell ill and had to miss the New Year’s Tour de Ski.

– It wasn’t a bad flu, but together with the leg problem it was a bad setback.

Hyvärinen, for example, was not able to do any free skiing for more than six weeks, and the going was underwhelming anyway. Hyvärinen admits that the beanie has tightened a lot at times.

– Sometimes I have had to put the ski hat away when it has tightened so much. When you identify yourself quite strongly through sports, it has had an impact.

However, Hyvärinen has noticed that he has not been left alone during a difficult time. He says that he has needed a lot of help from others this winter, but he has also received it. Sometimes he has gotten out of sports with the help of others, and sometimes he has joined sports.

– It has been great to notice that faith in humanity has been preserved all along.

You don’t have to try out for the races anymore

During the last couple of weeks, Hyvärinen has again found the desire to return to top skiing. He has been training on the snow in Vuokatti for a few days and has already managed to do much needed intensive exercises.

A satisfied Hyvärinen states that his mood and energy levels are already at a level that he could soon be ready for bigger treats. However, the Engadin World Cup came too quickly.

– My condition is not yet at a level where it would have been worthwhile to go to the heights of the Engadin. My goal is to take care of myself and train myself to such a state that next weekend there could be a possible place to participate.

The competitions held next weekend will be held at an altitude of more than 1,700 meters, while the following weekend in Cogne, according to Hyvärinen, the races will be held at an “intermediate altitude”. You have to go to this altitude of about 1,500 meters a little early to get used to it.

Hyvärinen says he is under pressure to succeed when he finally gets on the racetrack. After Cogne, the Falun World Cup is on the program before Trondheim.

– I already have enough experience in the World Cup that I don’t need to try it anymore. However, I have to be sure that my condition is good and that I can make some kind of result.

In Cogne, in addition to the pair sprint and sprint, 10 kilometers of freestyle skiing is available, and Hyvärinen likes that distance. He assures that the ankle is in 100% condition, and there is no need to worry about it.

November still on

Hyvärinen admits that his results list this season looks barren, because there is exactly one international competition: the Davos World Cup competition.

– I feel like November is still on me, he laughs.

The routine he misses hasn’t accumulated from this winter. Extra pressure has built up and he is worried about whether he can find a result. There are five weeks until the World Championships, and Hyvärinen knows that there is no room for complacency anymore.

– Now, however, it’s a nice desire to work again. Now let’s make come back number two for this winter, when the first one didn’t work out. Such a final come back for this winter.
