We thank President Trump for providing our service providers with clarity and assurance that they will not be subject to fines by making TikTok available to more than 170 million Americans and allowing more than 7 million small businesses to thrive. It’s a strong stand for the First Amendment and a clear rejection of any form of arbitrary censorship. We will work with President Trump on a long-term solution that keeps TikTok in the states United”, we read in one Note spread by TikTok.
The president-elect Donald Trump has already promised one extension of 90 days once he takes office in the White House. The 90-day extension is something that will most likely be done, because it’s appropriate,” Trump said after a telephone conversation with the Chinese president Xi Jinping. An announcement in this regard could therefore take place as early as today.
Friday the Court Supreme of the United States confirmed a law that bans the popular video-sharing platform in the name of national security unless its Chinese owners reach an agreement to sell it to investors not linked to the Chinese government by yesterday. The law requires Apple and Google to remove TikTok from their app stores, blocking new ones downloadtherefore not its use for those who have already installed it. Also Oraclewhich hosts TikTok’s servers, would be legally obligated to enforce the ban.
The law also provides a 90-day extension if the White House can show progress toward an agreement practicable. However, TikTok’s owner, the Chinese company ByteDance, has categorically refused any sale. Outgoing President Joe Biden’s administration has made it known that it will leave the issue to the new president.
In the meantime, several have arrived proposals for the acquisition of TikTok. One of these was presented on Saturday by the start-up Perplexity TO THEwhich also has the founder of Amazon among its investors, Jeff Bezoswhich offered a merger with TikTok’s US subsidiary.
