With 9 seasons and over 201 episodes, The Office is one of the most important comedy series of the 2000s. The format even surpassed the British original in terms of length and success. The stars of the series such as Steve Carell and John Krasinski are now known worldwide. But while some of them were basking in their success, one of them was very unhappy – because he wanted more.

The Office star Rainn Wilson wanted to be a movie star – not a TV star

As Dwight Schrute, Rainn Wilson is over-correct, often the butt of his colleagues’ pranks, never completely satisfied – and one of the funniest characters throughout the entire run of The Office. The actor seems to have shared his dissatisfaction with his character. According to his own statement during a visit to the podcast Club Random with Bill Maher Wilson was unhappy for a long time:

I’m in one of the big TV series. People love them. I didn’t enjoy it. I thought about it: ‘Why am I not a movie star? Why am I not the next Jack Black or the next Will Ferrell? How come I can’t have a film career?

Despite the success that the series brought, Wilson could not be satisfied. It wasn’t because he was ungrateful. Rather, he had it quite simply other goals:

I have hundreds of thousands [US-Dollar] earned. I wanted millions, and I was a TV star, but I wanted to be a movie star.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nAZ9T5qcD2k&ab_channel=ClubRandomPodcastMeanwhile, Rainn Wilson looks forgivingly on his time on The Office

Wilson now sees his time on The Office in a much more forgiving way. Surely they have Emmy nominations throughout the years helped, as did the gap since the series ended.

In fact, he still thinks about the series years later. In the podcast he even shared some ideas, which he spoke about the corona pandemic had. Accordingly, it would have been Dwight who would have dragged his colleagues back into the office – sometimes using very unfair methods.
