The popular digital card game Marvel Snap was suddenly unavailable in the United States. The decision is associated with Nuverse being owned by ByteDance.
Popular digital card game Marvel Snapwas unexpectedly removed from app stores in the US and became unplayable. Since Nuverse, the developer of the game, belongs to China-based ByteDance, which also owns TikTok, it was announced that the decision taken by the USA due to national security concerns affected the game. Marvel Snap users are greeted with a notification when they open the game: “Due to a law enacted in the United States, Marvel Snap is no longer available. We are working to restart our service.”
Why Was Marvel Snap Banned?
The main reason why Marvel Snap was banned is the decisions taken by the US government against ByteDance. The United States gave ByteDance an ultimatum to sell its assets to American companies, arguing that TikTok and other ByteDance applications pose national security risks. However, when ByteDance did not comply with this request, applications such as TikTok and Marvel Snap were blocked from access in the USA.
Marvel Snap reached a large user base in a short time, especially with its fast and entertaining gameplay. The game, which allowed users to engage in strategic battles with digital cards featuring their favorite Marvel heroes, was extremely popular on mobile and PC platforms. However, despite its high popularity, the ban in the US left the future of the game uncertain.
It is stated that the ban on Marvel Snap may be a temporary situation. It is thought that the game may be made available again if ByteDance reaches an agreement with the US government. It was reported that ByteDance was in talks with the new President Donald Trump to resolve the TikTok ban and that a solution was sought in the short term.
