At the turn of the year, several changes were implemented that affect Swedes’ private finances in one way or another.
The employment tax credit and the basic deduction were strengthened, taxes were eased and pensions were increased. For others, instead, costs rose, especially when electricity prices were adjusted.
On January 1, 2025, Ellevio implemented a change for its customers that had a direct impact on the price.

On June 11, 2025, the next change will take place, which means that many Swedes’ electricity contracts will be changed, which affects the vast majority of households. This is when most hourly price agreements for electricity disappear, reports Sveriges Radio.
The reason is that electricity trading in Europe and Sweden will switch to being traded every quarter instead of every hour on the Nordpool electricity exchange.
– You have four prices to keep track of per hour, that requires quite a lot from a private customer, says Hans Tyneliusresponsible at the electricity company Jämtkraft, to Swedish Radio.
– We are a bit concerned if the customers will react negatively.

The electricity company must do that
The energy market inspectorate believes that quarter trading results in forecasts and pricing becoming more accurate.
Starting this summer, all electricity companies with more than 200,000 customers must offer quarterly contracts. Several of the large companies will, however, convert hourly price agreements to just a quarter price agreement. However, according to Sveriges Radio, the customers who have a monthly price according to their agreement will be significantly affected by the change.
