“My son screamed with glass over himself”

In several buildings, windows were smashed in the powerful explosion, which also injured two people in Johanneshov, Stockholm.
Carolina Viding and her family woke up with shards of glass in their bed when the window was shattered by the pressure wave.
– My son shouted that it was on fire, she says.

The explosion occurred early on Saturday morning, in Johanneshov in Stockholm. Two people were injured, with some form of cuts that did not require hospital treatment.

– There is extensive damage to the property, there is extensive damage to the gate and also windows that have probably been broken in connection with the pressure wave, says Per Fahlström, press spokesperson at the police.

When TV4 Nyheterna is on the scene, the street is covered in broken glass and witnesses describe a very strong bang. At least three apartment buildings have been damaged, and it may be about a hundred broken windows.

“Had glasses over him and screamed”

One of the many residents who woke up to the bang is Carolina Viding and her family.

– You wake up in a second and wonder what the hell is going on, she says.

– I had my son in our bed. And he kind of got glass over him and sat up and screamed. It’s burning, he thought.

Carolina’s son, who is five, was shocked by the explosion, but escaped without injury. The apartment building they live in is opposite the gate where it was blown up.

– We looked out when it became light and my son said “Oh my god mother”, several times. Then he wanted to lie down in the kitchen and play minecraft. You have to try to explain what has happened, that this kind of thing can happen, that we are safe here and that me and dad are here, says Carolina Viding.

Celebrates the turnout among the neighbors

Despite a strong explosion, emergency personnel assessed that there is no risk of explosion and residents have not been evacuated. However, a nearby venue is kept open for those in the area who want to take you.

Carolina Viding describes that the neighbors in the house came together to deal with what happened.

– I think that something like this should not destroy the security where you live. You get a bit of shock and adrenaline. It can be good in a situation like this, too. That now we get to grips with this. Now we all help each other, now we fix coffee and everyone has something to drink and eat.

The incident is being investigated as public vandalism, but no one has yet been arrested.
