We definitely didn’t lack for exciting Star Wars rumors this week. After we report on Ewan McGregor’s possible return as Obi-Wan Kenobi in the second season of Ahsoka, we would like to bring you up to date on the next film in the star saga.

The Mandalorian & Grogu is hitting the big screen next year and so far almost nothing is known about the plot. However, based on the latest snippets, a rescue mission awaits us and the Return of a Star Wars villainwho we met 15 years ago in the animated series The Clone Wars.

Star Wars villain Embo is reportedly returning as a villain in The Mandalorian & Grogu

Like the Ahsoka rumor, the Mando rumor comes from Kristian Harloff, who served on the pop culture site Collider’s Jedi Council for a long time. On his YouTube channel, he revealed that he had heard that the Bounty Hunter Embo appears as a villain in The Mandalorian & Grogu.

Embo made his first appearance in the 17th episode of The Clone Wars Season 2 and subsequently appeared in seven additional chapters of the animated series. The character was voiced by none other than Dave Filoni, who is involved in numerous Mandoverse projects as a director, screenwriter and producer.

All Clone Wars episodes with Embo:

  • Season 2, Episode 17: Bounty Hunters (OT: Bounty Hunters)
  • Season 3, Episode 4: Sphere of Influence (OT: Sphere of Influence)
  • Season 4, Episode 9: Escape (OT: The Box)
  • Season 4, Episode 18: Double Game (OT: Crisis on Naboo)
  • Season 4, Episode 20: Bounty (OT: Bounty)
  • Season 4, Episode 22: Revenge (OT: Revenge)
  • Season 5, Episode 14: The Dark Covenant (OT: Eminence)
  • Season 6, Episode 5: An old friend (OT: An Old Friend)
  • Filoni is also on board with The Mandalorian & Grogu: Together with director and The Mandalorian creator Jon Favreau, he wrote the script for the film. And apparently he’s now taking on a speaking role and bringing back the character he loves. But how does Embo fit into the story of the film?

Is Embo really the big villain in The Mandalorian & Grogu? Doubts are appropriate

According to Harloff, the Mando film tells a rescue mission. Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and his protégé are supposed to free Rotta the Hutt (Jeremy Allen White) from the clutches of Embo, who is holding him hostage. Whether he is really the main villain of the film is questionable due to the low profile of the character.

While Embo is well known to die-hard fans, the general public may have no idea who he is. However, The Mandalorian & Grogu must reach a large mainstream audience in the cinema and offer a certain event character. The return of a relatively unknown Clone Wars character doesn’t necessarily promise that.

Especially after the battle for Mandalore in the third season of The Mandalorian, a simple rescue mission seems downright unspectacular. Is that really enough to get Disney+’s Mando in theaters? Maybe it’s more of a plot thread that determines the first act of the film, before bigger dangers lurk.

Based on the course Lucasfilm is taking with series like Ahsoka, the rumor still sounds plausible. More and more characters from The Clone Wars and Co. are making the leap into the live-action sector of the Star Wars universe. However, the character’s appearance has not been officially confirmed. As always, the rumor should be treated with caution.

When does The Mandalorian & Grogu start in cinemas?

On May 21, 2026 The Mandalorian & Grogu starts in German cinemas. It is the only Star Wars film of the next few years that has received a concrete theatrical release. There are also various other projects in development, including a Rey film and a prequel that takes us to the beginnings of the Jedi.
