Protests against Donald Trump in Washington

On Monday, Donald Trump will be sworn in as president, but already on Saturday, thousands of demonstrators gathered to protest in Washington DC.

Among the protesters were groups raising issues of women’s rights, abortion, racism and the environment, issues said to be threatened in the face of Trump’s presidency.

Before Trump was sworn in last time, in January 2017, large “Women’s march” protests were held all over the world. Hundreds of thousands of women then gathered to demonstrate. Many were wearing pink caps, which were also seen during Saturday’s demonstrations, according to Reuters.

The protests against the incoming president are said to be smaller this time, according to Reuters.

According to organizers, upwards of 50,000 people must have participated in the demonstrations. Police estimate that around 25,000 attended.
