“Twin Peaks” is a series created in 1990 created by Mark Frost and David Lynch that is definitely unique in the television landscape, and has become cult.
David Lynch left us on January 16, 2025 at the age of 78. Those who are tempted to revisit his unique filmography will not want to miss discovering Twin Peaksa series he created with Mark Frost. Aired from 1990 to 1991 (before a third season was released in 2017 and a film, Fire Walk With Mealso saw the light of day in 1992), it is a singular work that has become a great classic of the small skylight. In January 2025 in France, it is currently possible to see its two seasons on Paramount++.
Twin Peaks sees FBI agent Dale Cooper (Kyle MacLachlan, one of Lynch’s favorite actors) investigating the murder of high school student Laura Palmer in the fictional town of Twin Peaks. The motifs dear to the filmmaker (a dark atmosphere mixed with the supernatural, the exploration of the dark side of America, colorful characters…) and his surrealist aesthetic (the Red Room) come to punctuate this singular television work, which has marked generations of spectators and influenced pop culture. The music which has become iconic is by Angelo Badalamenti, Lynch’s faithful collaborator.
Canceled due to a drop in audiences during season 2 (due to the revelation of the assassin), it nevertheless gave rise to a film in 1992 (Twin Peaks: Fire walk with me which recounts the last days of Laura Palmer), then to a season 3 (Twin Peaks: The Return) 25 years later.
What is the plot of Twin Peaks ?
A murder has been committed in the small, uneventful town of Twin Peaks. Laura Palmer, a high school student loved and known by everyone, is found dead. FBI agent Dale Cooper is assigned to investigate and solve the teenager’s murder. He then discovers that Laura Palmer was not who everyone thought, and that the inhabitants of the small town are all hiding secrets.
