Window or hallway? The most basic question of all airplane passengers quickly loses meaning when you have a psychopath sitting next to you. This is what happens to the protagonist in the 2005 thriller Red Eye.

At the Dallas airport, the successful hotel manager Lisa Reisert (Rachel McAdams) meets the likeable Jackson Rippner (Cillian Murphy), whom she immediately finds quite charming. They flirt with each other a little and a short time later are actually sitting next to each other on the plane to Miami. Is there a little romance brewing here?
Not really, because after the start the alleged cavalier reveals himself to be a “manager” of contract killers. His task: Lisa is supposed to ensure that a high-ranking politician is accommodated in a specific room in her hotel fatal attack to enable this. As leverage, Jackson threatens to have Lisa’s father Joe (Brian Cox) murdered.
Lisa is desperately looking for a way out of her situation, whereupon she gets involved gripping psychological duel between her and the unscrupulous person sitting next to her.

Red Eye was one of the last films by the legendary director Wes Craven, who died in 2015. The creator of horror classics like Hill of Bloody Eyes, Nightmare and Scream! demonstrated once again his knack for directing nerve-wracking moments of tension and packed it into a crisp and entertaining 85 minute running time.
Craven was able to rely on two excellent stars: McAdams (Like a Single Day) showed her range outside of the comedy and romantic genres for the first time in Red Eye, while Murphy as an ice-cold villain almost 20 years before his Oscar for Oppenheimer his incredible acting talent demonstrated.
By the time their two characters meet in a furious action showdown, most of their fingernails have long since been bitten off. Thriller fans are in good hands here.
