The dog has a given place in many families, but during the last year the number of puppies registered with the Swedish Kennel Club (SKK) actually decreased. The decline was 7.5 percent compared to 2023 and the number of registered puppies landed at 41,434 in 2024. At the same time, reports The Swedish Agency for Agriculture about a reduction of 8.2 percent in its mandatory register.

With the reduction, there have been some shifts in the top list of the most popular dog breeds in Sweden. Here are the 20 most popular dog breeds in 2024.

The most popular dog breeds in 2024

1. Labrador retriever, 2,805 registered.

2. Golden retriever, 1,595 registered.

3. German Shepherd, 1,399 registered.

4. Jämhtund, 974 registered.

5. Cocker spaniel 965, registered.
