Jet fuel burned at Karlstad Airport

According to SOS Alarm, which is responsible for the rescue region Bergslagen, the caller stated that there was a fire with open flames from two fuel tanks with jet fuel loaded on trailers at Karlstad airport.

A light truck parked near the fuel trailer was also damaged in the fire. The fire started near a hangar.

– They aim to protect a nearby hangar, said a team leader at SOS Alarm to SVT Nyheter Värmland.

The airport rescue team moved in

A large effort with rescue services, police and ambulance was on site. But by then the airport’s own emergency services had already started to put out the fire, and managed to contain the fire.

Shortly after 4:30 p.m., the drama was over.

– The fire started in the truck and spread to the adjacent fuel tank, says Henrik Herou, operations leader at the scene.

The runway was closed

The fire broke out outside the controlled and fenced area of the airport, and neither the fuel nor the vehicles involved belong to the airport. This is stated by Åsa Jernfält at Karlstad airport.

“While the fire was going on, the runway was closed to all traffic except the ambulance helicopter. We are following the reports and investigations of the police and rescue services in the case,” she writes in an email to SVT.

No one was injured in the fire.
