It has become a little too much of life’s good things for Glenn Hysén during the long holidays.
Now he is working on lowering the weight on the scales.
– I screwed up in everything. Or maybe not in everything, but I didn’t train for six months, he tells Expressen.
He is one of Sweden’s best footballers of all time and won the Golden Ball twice in the 1980s. Glenn Hysen65, represented clubs such as IFK Göteborg, PSV Eindhoven, Fiorentina, Liverpool and Gais – in addition, he made 68 international appearances for Sweden and stood for a legendary effort in the 0-0 match against England in 1988 (when he got six wasps in the Expressen).
Glenn Hysén is not happy with the weight
These days, the ex-football professional has just moved into Mölndal. He and the wife Camilla have bought an apartment there and thus leave local Gothenburg. He gets closer to some of the children and grandchildren and is closer to nature. So far, they are both enjoying their new life very well.

Something Glenn is less comfortable with right now is his body. In an interview with Expressen, he talks about how the scale showed 108 kilos on New Year’s Eve. He has never been this heavy before. He is not going to accept that.
– Nothing to be proud of. Normally I’m around 90 kilos. I screwed up in everything. Or maybe not in everything, but I didn’t train for six months. Before, I drove two or three times a week and was in good shape, he says.
Hysén’s plan to lose 18 kilos
Now begins the road back down to 90 kilos for the profile. The goal is to lose 18 kilos. Sadly, it was a tough start for him as his gym was closed for two weeks after the turn of the year.
– But I have still lost four kilos since the first of January. Now it has opened and I will go to the gym once or twice a week. It’s enough to start with, you can’t go from zero to a hundred, but you have to make it sustainable in the long term. If you drive four or five sessions a week, you get tired. I don’t run, but mostly because it’s so fucking boring. But rowing machine, bicycle or anything works. Just moving around and getting a little sweaty, he says.

His tips for success are no super complicated diet, fasting or any advanced form of exercise. He eats regular food three times a day, avoids coffee bread and sweets, goes for brisk walks and cuts down on his beloved beer. Actually, it’s about a lifestyle change to avoid ailments. He has previously had a little pain in one knee, he wants to avoid that.
– If you meet a happy group, it can be half a bag of chips or whatever, but now I’m going to give this a proper chance and I’m not at all worried that it won’t work. Then whether it will be 14-15 kilos or 18, we’ll see. As long as you feel okay. And it may take as long as it takes, he says.
Good luck with your weight journey, Glenn! You have a decent skull and have also been an elite athlete. You know you have what it takes to make it. Drive hard!
