The EU gives Syria an emergency aid package worth 235 million euros.

The first EU official has traveled to Syria for a state visit. Belgian EU Commissioner for Equality, Preparedness and Crisis Management Hadja Lahbib arrived in Syria early Friday.

– I arrive in Damascus, Syria, a country where hope and optimism for a brighter future are bubbling. But there is also a terrible emergency in the country – almost 17 million people need humanitarian aid, Lahbib writes in X.

Lahbib says that he intends to make sure that those who need help are helped.

President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen says in X that the EU will give Syria, which is at a “critical turning point”, an emergency aid package worth 235 million euros.

According to Von der Leyen, the package will help Syrians build a “brighter future”.
