Pakistan’s former prime minister Khan was sentenced to 14 years in prison | News in brief

Former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s wife Bushra Bibi also received a prison sentence.

Former Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan has been sentenced to 14 years in prison.

Khan was convicted in a land-use corruption case. Khan has been in prison since 2023. Khan received a previous prison sentence for, among other things, selling state property, leaking state secrets and illegal marriage. Most of the previous convictions have been overturned.

Also Khan’s wife Bushra Bibi was sentenced to seven years in prison for the same corruption case.

Khan has said that the charges are untrue and that they are politically motivated. Known as a controversial figure, Khan enjoys widespread support in the country and his arrest and prosecution have led to massive protests on several occasions.
