The Brant Haldimand Norfolk Catholic District School Board has launched Grade 9 technological education courses available through after-school and night school programs.

The courses will begin at Assumption College in Brantford during the second semester and, this summer, in-person courses will be available at all the board’s secondary schools.
The initiatives support students in meeting the new compulsory technological education credit required by the Ministry of Education for students who entered Grade 9 in September or after.
All students are required to earn a Grade 9 or 10 technological education credit, which is a compulsory graduation requirement for the Ontario Secondary School Diploma.
Amy Pimentel, principal of alternative and continuing education, said rather than replacing a desired course to fit the compulsory credit into their schedule, students can acquire their technological credit outside the regular school day.

The courses will start in February and continue to be offered to future students.
“This was such an exciting opportunity to work with the school teams to bring these courses to life,” said Pimentel in a news release. “The principals and teachers worked hard behind the scenes to see what worked best for their school communities.”
Open houses will be held for families to learn more about the technological education program. The dates and times include:
- Wednesday at Assumption College. Guided tours will start every 15 minutes from 6 pm to 7 pm
- Wednesday at St. John’s College at 6 p.m.
- Thursday at Holy Trinity High School in Simcoe from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Students can explore course options and register through MyBlueprint.
