With her portrayal of the iconic Joker companion Harley Quinn in Suicide Squad, Margot Robbie created a cult figure. What is often overlooked is that the character is once again degraded from a tragically broken personality to a gaudy, over-the-top nerd fetish.
Birds of Prey: The Emancipation of Harley Quinn was released in 2020 and will be shown on TV on Friday. The solo film for Robbie’s character is a skillful liberation from the Joker addiction and also unleashes brutal action from the John Wick genius.

Director Cathy Yan’s film begins directly with a scene in which the relationship between Harley and the Joker comes to a hard end. The protagonist still emerges from the pain of separation as a strengthened, self-determined protagonist.
With one of your own Gang of combat-ready women like Dinah (Jurnee Smollett), Montoya (Rosie Perez) and the hardened crossbow killer Helena (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), she takes on the fight against villain Roman Sionis (Ewan McGregor).

The action in particular is a highlight in Birds of Prey. The reason for this is that these sequences were taken over by John Wick studio 87Eleven. John Wick 4 director Chad Stahelski even directed some of the action scenes in the DC film himself.
If Sledgehammers, needles or homemade grenade launchers are used, pleasant memories of the Keanu Reeves franchise are quickly brought back. Birds of Prey manages to combine this form of brutal action with brightly colored comic images. The result is a crazy, entertaining DC trip that is definitely worth it.
Unfortunately, Birds of Prey only grossed a little over 200 million worldwide with a budget of between 80 and 100 million dollars and was anything but satisfactory commercially. To this day, the film is still a real insider tip for many superhero fans.
