Diablo 4 brings back one of the most popular classes from Diablo 3, but different than you think

In Diablo 4, Season 7 is just around the corner and brings back a popular hero from Diablo 3. Although you can’t select him as a class, you can still use some of his abilities.

Which class is it about? It’s about the Witch Doctor – or in German: Hexedoktor. It was one of the players’ favorites in Diablo 3, and many of you wanted the class for Diablo 4 too.

Instead of bringing back the popular classes from the Diablo installments in Vessel of Hatred, Blizzard decided to do something new. This is how the spirit-born came into play with the expansion.

In Season 7 you still don’t have the opportunity to play the witch doctor, but there are various skills that are reminiscent of the popular class. Overall, the coming season is all about the new witch powers.

How does the witch doctor come back? Not as a separate class, but in the form of individual skills. In Season 7 of Diablo 4 there are Witch Power powers that you can equip. They represent the new mechanics in the coming season. Blizzard presented two of them in the “Campfire Chat” livestream on January 16, 2025 on YouTube.

The developers themselves say that these new powers are based on the witch doctor’s skills – and at least two of them are very similar:

  • The Poison Frog minion that you summon to attack and poison enemies. When he dies, the frog explodes. From rank 5 onwards, he also pulls enemies towards him and taunts them.
  • The Fire Bat minions that attack enemies in a deadly swarm, dealing fire damage. At higher ranks, the bats stun the opponents.
  • There should be a total of 25 witch powers. You can find out what these are and how they work in our overview: Diablo 4 Witchcraft Powers: This is how the mechanics work in Season 7

Season 7 is all about witches

What else is new in Season 7? Season 7 revolves around the powers of witch power and, in addition to the special skills, brings new “occult gemstones” into the game. The occult gems are seasonal, socketable items that you can get from the “Whispering Tree”. For this you need, among other things, the heads of the “head rotten” and gemstone fragments.

In addition, Blizzard is reworking the layout of the “Whispering Tree” location. Traders will be added and the waypoint will be moved so players can get to the tree faster. There will also be “Ravens of the Tree” on the map where you can give your gifts.

On top of that, Blizzard is bringing a feature in Season 7 that players have been wanting since the release: the armory. It allows you to quickly switch between different builds. This is particularly useful in the endgame when you use different builds for things like bosses and the pit.
