While the US Supreme Court is discussing whether the Chinese social networking application TikTok should be banned in the country or sold to an American company, TikTok users in this country are turning to another Chinese platform.
THE PEOPLE OF THE USA DO NOT RECOGNIZE PROHIBITIONS
Many users who reacted to the possibility of TikTok being banned and described themselves as “TikTok immigrants” began to flock to RedNote (Xiaohongshu, as it is known in China), another Chinese social media application.
While a new crowd was added to the application, which has approximately 300 million users, with the “immigration” of US users, more than 160 thousand posts were shared with the “TikTok immigrant” tag.
That’s why the RedNote app became the most downloaded app in the US App Store this week.
THEY WERE WELCOME WITH ‘WELCOME’ SHARES
Chinese users welcomed “TikTok immigrants” with welcome posts, some asking for help with their English homework, while others responded to US users’ “Speak English” posts with “This is China, you should learn Chinese.” he replied.
UNLESS A DECISION IS OTHERWISE, THE BAN WILL ENTER INTO FORCE ON JANUARY 19.
The law that will restrict TikTok’s activities in the United States will come into force on January 19, unless its parent company, China-based ByteDance, transfers the rights of the platform or the Supreme Court decides otherwise.
Both US President Joe Biden and President-elect Donald Trump have expressed concerns about the application in the past, and TikTok management argued that these concerns were speculative.
THE LAW WAS ACCEPTED
On December 15, 2022, the US Senate unanimously passed the bill banning federal government employees from downloading TikTok to government devices due to “national security concerns”.
The US House of Representatives also banned the download and use of the TikTok application on official devices used by its members and employees on December 28, 2022. Similar laws banning the use of TikTok have been passed in many states, including Maryland, Nebraska, South Carolina, South Dakota, Indiana and Texas.
The US Senate also passed the bill in April 2024, telling TikTok to “either sell or be banned”.
