Nintendo stated in a conversation that they would like to deliver enough “Switch 2” consoles for the release. An analyst explains: Nintendo has prepared supply chains.
The Switch 2 has finally been introduced. But there are already concerns that there could be delivery problems. Some players are thinking about the release of the PS5 with concern: the console was hardly available and scalpers grabbed the few available copies in order to resell them at high prices.
But according to the English-language website Bloomberg, Nintendo has already planned everything out so that every interested player could buy a console.
Analyst says: Nintendo wants to deliver millions of consoles immediately upon release
What does the analyst say? Robin Zhu, an analyst at Sanford C. Bernstein, spoke to Bloomberg magazine ahead of the announcement. He told the magazine that Nintendo has prepared a supply chain network that will allow the company to sell more than 20 million units in the first year.
Bloomberg also gave comparative data: 15 million units were sold when the first Switch was released. The aim is to be able to offer significantly more consoles when the Switch 2 is released.
Is that enough? Whether that will be enough for the release remains to be seen. Significantly more devices have now been sold over the counter: According to Statista.com, Nintendo has now sold around 145 million Switch devices.
But it is not yet known whether everyone really wants to upgrade to the new model. This should also decide which games will be presented exclusively for the Switch 2. Nintendo has already announced this: The Switch 2 is backwards compatible, but there will be exclusive titles. In technical language, these are the so-called “system sellers”: the games that are intended to accelerate the sale of the hardware. For example, the next big Pokémon game.
Scalpers caused chaos and high prices at the launch of the PS5
What are scalpers anyway? The English word “scalper” only has unpleasant translations in German. Simply put, it means people who buy certain products that have very limited availability. If you then have limited supplies, you resell the products at inflated prices. This applies to shoes, expensive brands or even game consoles.
While the supporters behind it see a brilliant business idea, players and those affected in particular reject the scalpers’ behavior as usury.
How did things end with the PS5? The greed for big money was probably not worth it for every scalper. It is now being said from various circles that some scalpers have probably made a serious miscalculation. Because the market has now calmed down and the PS5 is available in stores: Players say: Scalpers are desperately trying to sell PS5 consoles – they are stuck with it because no one wants to buy them anymore
