Tennis: Iga Swiatek lost only two games then was booed

In her victory speech, however, she was a bit honest.

– I have to say I found better coffee places in Sydney, Swiatek said and was greeted by boos from the Melbourne crowd.

The Polish world number two has now won 11.9 percent of her sets in Grand Slam tournaments by blanking her opponent and she is in exclusive company.

Only legends Margaret Court (all-time best with 24 Grand Slam titles) and Chris Evert are ahead of that statistic.

When Sramkova took her first game of the match to make it 1–1 in the second set, she received warm applause at Rod Laver Arena and thanked the crowd by waving and clenching her fists.

“Can work on stuff between matches”

The short matches mean that Swiatek needs to check the training times to keep the pressure up.

– We try to think long-term. Yesterday I trained a little longer. Even though it was raining, I was able to do it. So today I didn’t feel like I needed to practice more, but of course, at Grand Slams it’s great to be able to work on some stuff between matches, says Swiatek to the organizer’s website.
