Off the coast of the Philippines, tension is rising with China. Since the beginning of January, Chinese coast guard vessels have been getting a little too close to the coast of the archipelago, penetrating the exclusive economic zone of the Philippines. One ship in particular is of concern to Filipinos, the “monster 5901.” It is the largest coast guard cutter in the world, and it came within a few meters of the coast of Zambales, west of Manila.
