Petter Northug has not yet given up hope for the World Ski Championships.
Now he has surprised everyone with his impressive performance on the ski slopes.

The dream of the World Ski Championships is still alive! Peter Northug is doing everything to convince the Norwegian national ski team to give him a place in Norway’s squad for the cross-country skiing world championships in Trondheim in a month’s time.
Northug chases the WC
The Norwegian ski star, who turned 39 years old, has long talked about his dream of one last major championship before his career ends for the second time. But what seemed unlikely has now changed.

In the 10 kilometer classic during the Norwegian championships, Northug surprised everyone. He finished as the leader after an impressive performance, defeating national team stars such as Simen Hegstad Krüger, Erik Valnes, Iver Tildheim Andersen and Dridrik Tönseth.
– How to comment on this? I didn’t expect this, and I don’t think Petter expected it either. There is something special in that man’s head. This can be really exciting, says the skiing expert Martin Johnsrud Sundby in Norwegian NRK.
Petter impresses
Petter Northug then finished in eighth place but what is extra impressive is that it was his season debut. The Norwegian veteran has been plagued by injury and illness problems during the winter and was unable to start before this race.
– I am still in the running to win WC gold in the team sprint with Johannes (Hösflot Kläbo). People have laughed at me all year but I show that it is possible, says Northug himself after the race.

But there probably won’t be any WC for the controversial skiing profile.
– The percentage is probably zero, but the guy can create chaos and he does it every time, says Johnsrud Sundby.
