– I don’t think it’s strange, and I don’t think it’s strange that super-disappointed athletes don’t want to answer tons of people who want to know why, 15 minutes after they’ve failed in a sprint quarter-final or if they’ve missed a crucial penalty kick . I have great understanding for both parties and believe that no one has done anything wrong.
In Stavås Skistad’s absence, several other sprinters have impressed at the World Cup and are ahead of her in the fight for the gold at the World Ski Championships in Trondheim in a month’s time. Lage Sofienlund points out above all the Swedish Jonna Sundling.
– Jonna Sundling has impressed me. She is probably the woman to beat at the World Cup. But as it stands this year, no one will remember what happens at the World Cup this season. It is the championship in February and March that defines everything. It may happen that several of the Swedes who haven’t been super sharp until now will be when it’s time for the WC, says the coach to the Norwegian newspaper.
