The driver suspected of having hit three cyclists, one of whom died, tried to explain her actions. She had notably mentioned suicidal thoughts.
Tuesday January 14, 2025, the driver of a white van hit a first cyclist from behind at rue de la République in Rouen, then two others on lane Teor, rue Alsace-Lorraine. One of the three victims died in the middle of the day from his injuries. This Wednesday, the public prosecutor of Rouen Sébastien Gallois indicated, in a press release, that the police custody of the driver was extended on January 15.
A “significant personal discomfort” mentioned
As a reminder, she had embarked on a chase with the city’s municipal police teams, then the gendarmes, without causing any further injuries. According to the public prosecutor, the accused linked her action “to significant personal discomfort”, information relayed in the columns of Paris Normandy.
“Investigations by the judicial police are continuing to reconstruct the full course of the suspect and identify possible other witnesses to this act,” he specifies. The media also indicates that the driver had “mentioned suicidal thoughts”. The cyclist who died despite emergency assistance was 29 years old. The two other people hit, also women, are aged 30 and 32.
Paris Normandie finally reveals that the association Sabine Rouen Cycling “announced on January 15, the organization of a gathering on Saturday January 18”, in front of the Marcel-Duchamp esplanade, opposite the Museum of Fine Arts, from 11 a.m. Yesterday, the Minister of Transport Philippe Tabarot – suspected by the courts of embezzlement – expressed his “total solidarity towards the injured and their families”, in a message posted on the social network Facebook.
