After the announcement of the withdrawal of Disney+ from its catalog, the encrypted channel is withdrawing a new option from some of its subscribers. A measure which notably devalues the image quality for non-binding offers.

The year 2025 is off to a bad start for Canal subscribers. A few days after learning that they were going to lose access to the family streaming platform Disney +, a new measure shakes up users’ screen time and more particularly their image quality. Indeed, Canal+ has decided to review the options of its offers, and not for the better…

Thus, subscribers without commitment find themselves deprived of streaming on several devices, 4K UHD image quality and Dolby Atmos sound. On X, the Internet user specifies that “non-binding subscriptions are now limited to one simultaneous user and without UHD”. A measure which is, however, accompanied by a slight drop in price. Since the monthly subscription goes from €27.99 to €24.99.

Canal+ subscriptions: the platform aligns with the competition

With this devaluation of the offer without commitment, the Bolloré group is only aligning itself with other on-demand streaming platforms. Indeed, Netflix, Max and even Disney+ have already opted for similar measures on their subscriptions. The three SVOD giants go even further by reserving 4K UHD only for the most expensive subscriptions (€19.99 per month for Netflix, €13.99 per month for Max and Disney++).

At a time when more and more consumers are favoring streaming platforms over standard television channels, charging for such an option extra seems outdated, but it reflects the reality of an image war. On the Canal+ side, this type of supplement is a task when we know that the brand’s strengths are notably the promotion and production of quality cinema content, series and documentaries.

Canal+ subscriptions: what are the changes?

Thus, the new Canal+ price list for 2025 promises subscribers without commitment a 1080p image, Dolby 5.1 sound and only one user at a time (compared to two simultaneously previously). All for €24.99 per month. Added to this are part of the Canal bouquet (Box Office, Big screen, Series, Docs, Kids, Sport 360), the entire Apple TV + platform and TNT live and in replay.

In addition, other changes are taking place in the rest of the subscriptions offered by Canal+. From now on, Paramount+ is accessible via the Ciné Séries formula and thus disappears from the offers. In addition, Netflix is switching to a formula with advertising (except at an additional cost). Despite these various changes, Canal+ has the advantage of bringing together several SVOD platforms within the same subscription while offering access to a rich catalog of content for the whole family.
