Three years ago, she was the first Swedish woman to participate in Olympic ski jumping.
Then the future looked bright. But then came the severe knee injury.
Frida Westman is only now back on the ski slope – and does not rule out a WC start.
Almost a year and a half after the accident in training in the late summer of 2023 could Frida Westman feel what it’s like to be in the air with your skis on.
– It was very nervous, but it felt right when I took the lift up and was going to jump. I tried not to wait too long at the top, but put on the skis quite quickly.
– When I released the barrier, I thought “well, now there’s no turning back so it’s just a matter of driving”. Afterwards, there was incredible relief and happiness. The second jump was not as nervous but still a little unusual, considering that I haven’t jumped in over a year, but it’s fun to be up and running, says Frida to skidor.com.

Westman comeback
In November 2022, Westman managed to take her first podium in the World Cup when she came third. When she competes again is unclear.
– Right now, my plan is to build back security and self-confidence on the hill, and really just train until the World Cup, if it becomes relevant.
The WC at the end of February-March is arranged in Trondheim, where Frida Westman lives and trains.
– It will be good, but we have to accelerate and brake at the same time. How long it will take before Frida is back at her level is hard to say, but this season is a bonus for Frida, says Håvard Liesportingly responsible for ski jumping at the ski association.
